In an amazing demonstration of human
spirit and teamwork Legend Homes, along with all of
their participating partners, rose to the challenge
of building a safe, healthy home for the Byers family
as part of the ABC television show Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition. “Parr was honored to be
included in this monumental community
effort. There’s a little girl with cancer
and a family struggling to cope and we knew we could
make a difference,” said Nate Bond, Director of
Sales - The Parr Company. “This project
required intricate manufacturing in both the wall and
roof systems, and the best framing team available to
put it all together. It was our chance to
demonstrate what we could do with our manufactured
wall systems and installation team and make a lasting
contribution to help this family,” continued
Bond. “This project gave The Parr Company
an opportunity to fulfill our purpose – to help
build homes that are healthy, sustainable, durable
and efficient.”
“We knew this was going to be a
challenging project, but I don’t think anyone
could have imagined what it would really be like,
explained Scott Ericson, Regional Sales Manager for
Parr Lumber & NSC Installation. “At
any given time, there were more than 200 workers of
the various trades all working at top speed in a 4000
square foot space – not to mention the camera
crews. I’ve never seen anything like
it! I’d like to say it was all in a days
work, but we honestly fit three days of work in 22
hours and 100+ temperatures. It was an amazing effort
and I’m really proud of our team.”
High Praise from Legend Homes
“The Parr Company (Parr Lumber,
Quality Truss, Northwest Structural Components, and
Northwest Structural Components Installation) was
critical to developing accurate plans, working through
the structural issues on computer prior to building,
and assembling accurate components using top-grade
materials that fit together like a glove. There
were no defects in any of the components, despite a
complicated plan with soaring vaults and intricate
details. All this was done to produce a
state-of-the-art structure in an incredibly short
period of time (the entire home was built in 106 hours,
including demolishing the original structure). We
could not have done this project without this
impressive effort from the Parr team.” –
Jim Chapman, President – Legend Homes.
About the Byers Family
The Byers look like your typical
American family: dad (Rob), mom (Rachel), two boys
(Chris and Joe) and little sister Jenessa (or
“Boey,” as she is called). But in January
2006, Boey, now eight, was diagnosed with a very rare,
aggressive childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma
which has a 70% survival rate. Not ones to be defeated,
this loving, spirited family banded together for the
fight of their lives. Not only has Boey endured nearly
a year of chemotherapy and radiation, she has also been
outspoken about combating cancer. In June, in between
stays at the Children’s Cancer Center at
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Boey asked
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden to cosponsor the Conquer
Childhood Cancer Act.
